The BCS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system is designed to create a positive supportive learning environment. We establish clear behavior expectations, called the Bear Necessities, for all members of our school community (scroll down to check them out). These expectations are taught and reinforced intentionally throughout the school and throughout the school year. Positive behaviors and attitudes are recognized and we actively support the students who struggle to meet the expectations
Links and Spheres: Celebrations
Once we teach the Bear Necessities to the students, we begin to reinforce and celebrate when they follow them. As staff notice students meeting or exceeding the expectations, we give the students a plastic chain link to add to the class collection. Once a class collects 100 links, they have a small celebration and place a sphere into the tube in the hallway. Once the tube fills to the top, we hold a school-wide celebration that has included in the past: extra recess, movie afternoons, field trips, and carnivals.
